In Internet Explorer 7, URL properties and attributes were linked; some returned relative URLs, others were fully qualified. In Internet Explorer 8, DOM properties always return fully-qualified URLs; to retrieve the value as it was specified in the HTML source, use getAttribute.
The following test shows the difference between a content attribute (getAttribute) and a DOM attribute (a.href).
