!DOCTYPE Comparison

The following IFRAME elements show the effect of the !DOCTYPE declaration on Cacading Style Sheets, Level 1 (CSS 1) box model properties. The document specified by the IFRAME element on the left contains a !DOCTYPE declaration that switches Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6 or later into standards-compliant mode. The document specified by the IFRAME element on the right contains a !DOCTYPE declaration that does not switch Internet Explorer 6 or later into standards-compliant mode. This IFRAME also shows how the DIV element renders in earlier versions of Internet Explorer.
